| Our students celebrated the spirit of creativity, engineering, and Thanksgiving with a special Balloons Over Broadway parade inspired by the beloved book by Melissa Sweet. After learning about Tony Sarg—the imaginative puppeteer behind the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade—students explored how parade balloons are designed, built, and brought to life.
In the classroom, each student created their own unique “parade balloon” using art, STEM skills, and plenty of imagination. They sketched designs, crafted colorful characters, and experimented with ways to make their balloons move just like the real parade.
To showcase their hard work, students participated in a schoolwide parade, guiding their creations past cheering classmates and staff. Just like in the Macy’s Parade, we had student “balloon handlers,” parade announcers, and festive music to bring the celebration to life.
This joyful event blended literacy, creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork—truly capturing the magic of Balloons Over Broadway and the Thanksgiving season. Our students were proud to share their work and spread a little holiday cheer throughout our school! |
